There are many reasons why adding candle sand to the base of your vases or hurricane lanterns is a great idea. 

Often, you may find that handmade lanterns and glass vases are not completely level at their base. By using sand you can ensure a safe and level surface to position your candle. Also, any debris or excess wax will fall on the sand minimising any cleaning.
